Board responsibilities

Children’s Hearings Scotland (CHS) Board has a responsibility:

  • For making sure that Children's Hearings Scotland (CHS) fulfils any legal or administrative requirements for the use of public funds;
  • That we achieve the aims and objectives set by Scottish Ministers;
  • For promoting the efficient and effective use of staff and other resources by the organisation in accordance with the principles of best value.

The Board members are appointed by, and are accountable to, Scottish Ministers. Appointments are made in accordance with Schedule 1 of the Children’s Hearings (Scotland) Act 2011 and the Public Appointments Commissioner for Scotland’s Code of Practice. Board members are appointed for a period of three years. Board members must adhere to the Children’s Hearings Scotland Board Member Code of Conduct.  

Appointments are part-time and attract non-pensionable remuneration of:

  • Chair of the Board: £225.92 per day in return for a time commitment of eight days per month.
  • Board members: £190.99 per day in return for a time commitment of between 1.5 - 2 days per month.

The CHS Board review their Standing Orders annually.
