On Thursday 28^th July, Minister for Children and Young People, Clare Haughey will attend Children’s Hearings Scotland Inverclyde Recognition for Panel Members.

 

During the first stage of her visit, the Minister will meet with young people from the care-experienced group, Proud2Care, and spend time with the CHS panel community as well as social workers at an informal brunch event.  This event will include time spent in group discussion around The Promise, firstly around language used; then the  foundations of voice, family, care, people and scaffolding, what is being done well and what can be improved, and Inverclyde’s work to #keepthepromise.

 

The Minister will also observe a comprehensive mock children’s hearing, including a pre-hearing discussion, based on a realistic case study, before taking part in the Recognition Presentation for Panel Members who have been recently appointed and those who attained long service achievements.  CHS Inverclyde and representatives of the CHS Board and its Convener Elliot Jackson, along with representatives from Inverclyde Council, SCRA, and other partner agencies, greatly look forward to this visit which will give the Minister a chance to engage with the dedicated community of volunteers and to celebrate their commitment and resilience.

 

Over the last two years, Inverclyde’s sense of working together has developed and strengthened, both within the panel community and with our partners. Panel members now talk about the sense of community and how they do feel supported. That has happened despite almost all meetings being virtual. This event, including the Minister’s attendance, gives the opportunity to consolidate and build on that cohesion, as the team moves forward into the post-pandemic environment and continues to implement the findings of the Independent Care Review outlined in The Promise.
