Being a Panel Member in Edinburgh

As part of your role as a Panel Member in Edinburgh you will be expected to commit to sit on two children’s hearings every month.

Local Training Events

  • There will be around eight local training evenings every year, organised by the Learning and Development Co-ordinators (LDCs). You should attend as many of these as possible but ideally at least four per year. Local training will focus on local services available to families and practice issues particular to Edinburgh. These events also provide you an opportunity to meet with fellow Panel Members outside the hearing centres to cement friendships and build upon support networks.

Hearings schedule

1 Fountainhall Road, EH9 2NL: Monday - Thursday mornings and afternoons, Friday mornings only.

Your commitment to all training dates and availability to do hearings is crucial. To allocate hearings to the Panel Member community we require prospective Panel Members to be able to offer up to twenty dates you can be available in any month, to give you a minimum of two hearing session per month.

Mentors/Buddies

  • As a new Panel Member you will be allocated a Buddy to offer support, guidance and answer questions. Every buddy holds a wealth of knowledge and understanding from their own time as a Panel Member and is keen to help and assist you to get the best from your experience.
  • As part of their role, Buddies will offer dedicated one to one time as well as regular online group meet-ups and drop-in sessions promoting opportunities for all Edinburgh-based trainees to get to know each other.
